Organization of Catholic Men for Development (OCMD) yesterday handed over foodstuffs worth D50,000 to some families in West Coast Region and Kanifing Municipal Council. This is with expressed aim of easing their suffering amid Covid-19 restriction measures meant to curb the spread of the pandemic.
The restriction has affected tens of thousands of Gambians many of whom live from hand-to-mouth.
Paul C. Mendy, the group’s vice chairman, said: “this gesture will help to ease suffering being encounter by many families in the country.”
He urged other groups to come and give such support to the communities while he described the present situation a “really trying time.”
According to him, resources garnered have been raised solely by the group, adding
“our faith teaches us that we should be each other’s keepers and that is exactly what OCMD is demonstrating today just as we have been doing over the years.”
He also call on all and sundry to support the needy, especially in this trying time.
Father Anthony Gabisi described the gesture as something “in accordance with what Christianity teaches” and that “the organization is following exactly the dictates of Jesus Christ.”
He then called on members of this organization to continue on their good work to mankind.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Simon Suta Mendy expressed gratitude to the benefactors for the gesture, while he noted that the gesture is very great in the eyes of the needy and the nation as a whole.
