Al- Huda Foundation in partnership with US-based foundation of Helping Hand for Relief and Development has distributed food aid worth over D300,000 to 200 families across the country.
The distributed food aid was meant to complement government efforts in supporting the public amid the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

The distributed foodstuffs included cooking oil, bags of rice, bags of sugar, and boxes of coos as well as cartoons of tea bags.

Alpha Ngiran, Vice President of Al-Huda Foundation gave a brief background of the foundation. He said it was founded in The Gambia in 2017.

“Our activities are organizing Quranic competition between the English schools, providing food for the needy families, helping boarding schools, helping sisters who want to put on hijab with veils and organizing Islamic Lectures for young people,” he said.

He commended their partner, Helping Hand for Relief and Development for collaborating with them to make the gesture bigger.

He noted that they do contribute among themselves to help needy families in the communities, but this time around “it’s a bigger relief package compare to the previous ones we had, so we really thankful to HHRD for collaborating with us.”

Abdallah Jagne, Supervisor and Membership Coordinator of Al- Huda Foundation, reiterated that during last year Ramadan they were only able to help 10 needy families.

“Sometimes when we visit a family, I feel like crying due to the conditions they are living-in and how needful they are. But Alhamdulillah, we are able to collaborate with people who trusted and gave us fund to share it among 200 families,” he disclosed.

Sarjo Jobe, one of the beneficiaries who commended Al- Huda and Helping Hands for Relief and Development for their wonderful gesture said the relief package will go a long way.
He added that the relief packaged came at a right time as the world is facing a serious havoc.
