Rising Against Racism (RAR), a leading human rights organization against racism in the country yesterday wrote a letter to the Inspector General of Police requesting for a protest permit against the murder of George Floyd who was killed by the US Police in Minneapolis.
On Sunday another prominent human rights activists also written to the Police Chief Alhagie Mamor Jobe demanding for a protest permit to demonstrate peacefully in front of the American Embassy against the killing of George Floyd on the 25th May, 2020 by the US police including other African-Americans.
In a written letter to the Inspector General of Police signed by various names which includes Kemeseng Sanneh, Omar Saibo Camara, Dodou Jah and MC Cham reads:
“We Rising Against Racism hereby declare our intention to conduct a public demonstration against the killing of George Floyd on the 13 June 2020 from 10:00 AM to 1: 00PM the match pass will begin from Westfield to the American Embassy along Kairaba Avenue, where we will deliver our petition letter to the American Embassy.
The letter further stated that: “The reason for the protest is triggered by the killing of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police officer in the United States on 25 May 2020. The issue of racial killing and racism has reached its peak therefore; we can no longer remain silent about it.
“The case of Gorge is not an isolated case. Many other suffered a similar fate simply for being black. The pigmentation of our skin colour has become a crime which we can no longer accept,” it concluded.
George Floyd was killed by a US Police in Minneapolis last month following his hand cuffing and maltreatment which has later resulted to his death and including a Gambian citizen who was also shot to losing his life in Georgia Atlanta.
