Chief Justice Hassan B Jallow on Wednesday presided over the opening of High Court annex at mile seven in Bakau which seeks to providing access and speedy trial to litigants who are seeking justice.
It also aims to promoting judiciary decentralization process in the country and minimizing backlog of cases, as High Court in Banjul is said to have congested.
Salieu Taal, president of Gambia Bar Association said the new complex is expected to ease the work of the high court and provide access to justice particularly the residents.
The decentralization of justice delivery across the country according to the president of the bar association will also reduce backlog of cases and create access to justice.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, chief justice Hassan B Jallow, said lauded the initiative as “historic” to have a high court in Bakau which is also a historic settlement with large a population.
He expressed optimism that the complex in the future might turn to commercial for tribunal court, saying “justice materials must be available for effective justice delivery.”
Other speakers included Alagie Camara, a spokesman for the contractor, Sat Linkers and Justice Landing Sanneh who delivered the vote of thanks.
