The mayor of Banjul has praised the Think Young Women Association for their immense contribution in addressing plights of the young women in the country through skills.
Lord Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe disclosed this during a one-day capacity building training held for female politicians on leadership skills and peace building on Monday.
The training was organised by Think Young Women.
“As a firm believer of women empowerment and the active participation of women politics, I am with the conviction that the day-long capacity building training will equip the women leaders with the communication and advocacy tools,” she told the group.
“Let us break the gender barrier, let us break the gender gap and break the gender discrimination in our everyday live, because I am with the conviction that this training will be a life changing,” she encouraged the women.
According to her, the group deserves commendation for their commitment in coming up with such platforms which seeks to brainstorm ideas to uplift nation’s growth. She added that “increasing the representation of women across all levels, especially in leadership is an integral factor in the pursuit of equality, justice and the productivity of the nation.”
She reechoed it to them that it is their collective responsibility to continue to raise awareness on gender related issues and promote gender parity, she said.
