Charity Foundation donates D1million in materials to health sector and neediest

Martina’s Charity Foundation has donated materials to the health sector and neediest worth up to one million dalasi.

The supports aimed at helping the health departments in the Gambia, support Agriculture and needy families in the country.

Mariama Marong Baldeh, a nurse and one of the founders of the Foundation said: “the foundation was registered last year in July and have a Gambian base partner Jerreh Sanno in Spain and two other Spanish, revealing that they normally bring materials in the Gambia to help the needy even before the registration of the foundation.”

“As a Gambian I believe everyone should contributes their quarter to towards the development of the nation and our foundation is here to contribute in the development of the country and to support the needy in the society,” she said.

According to her, looking at the health system in the country, she thinks that there is a need for everyone to come together and support the health sector especially in the rural areas. Adding that, in the rural areas so many people are suffering and a lot need to be done because most of their health departments lack almost all the facilities.

She said they are collaborating with the Ministry of health so that they can help them to facilitate where the materials will be allocated. Adding that, at the moment they are targeting Brikama health centre, Kiang Karantaba health centre and Jamilly health post in Central River Region.

“In Gambia everyone needs help especially when it comes to health, so we don’t want to concentrate on one area because it is for all Gambian’s and the foundation is not only based on health but other areas like digging boreholes, agriculture etc”, she explained.

She further stated that the donation has nothing to do with Covid-19 because even before Covid-19 started, they had two containers distributed including other distributions rural Gambia.

She also disclosed that the foundation is also planning to build permanent health centre for the Gambians to reduce the reference of citizen for overseas treatment.

Mariama concluded by expressing gratitude to the Ministry of Health for their support towards the foundation and her team mates including Kebba Camara and others for their continuous support.
