The Gambian Foreign Minister, Dr. Mamadou Tangara, is seeking support from US Congresswoman, Karen Bass, for truth and justice in the death of a Gambian citizen.
Congresswoman Karen Bass is the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Africa Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the United States Congress.
Tangara made the request during a telephone discussion with the Congresswoman on Thursday, during which he asked for truth and justice to prevail in the case of Gambian citizen, Lamin Sisay, 39, who died in Georgia, Atlanta, US.
According to an official statement, on Friday, Tangara expressed concern about the safety of Gambians and African Americans in the US.
In solidarity, he expressed that “Neither of us is safe until all of us are safe.”
He also extended an invitation to the Congresswoman and members of Congressional Black Caucus to visit The Gambia, land of Kunta Kinteh.
The discussion mainly centred on how to ensure justice for Mr. Lamin Sisay and also to preserve the memory of George Floyd.
Tangara commended Congresswoman Bass for efforts employed in attaining a just and equal society in the US and across the world.
Congresswoman Bass is leading efforts by the U.S congress to respond to police brutality against black Americans.
On Monday 8 June, she led the tabling of a bill introduced by Democrats with a view to bringing an end to police misconduct with reform.
