By Landing Colley

The standard-bearer of Gambia Action Party has slammed the Ministry of Lands over the land misconduct plunging the country into rising land problems.

Lamin Bojang was responding to the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary statement made at a press conference whereby he was quoted saying ‘the commission is not done settle the land and the youth start to build fence without no authority and the document to do any development at the Strazer land.’

“Where are we going to get the document from?  When they are denying and the government supposed to be there to serve the interest of the people,” he said.

He described the Ministry’s permanent secretary‘s statement as “so painful,” because the Village Development Community (VDC) was set up by the Local Government Act to ensure the development of the communities in the country.

“The people of Brufut are law abiding citizens, they are not after anybody’s piece of land but they are after the implementation of the Janneh Commission’s recommendations. If anyone feels that the people of Brufut are naïve and weak about the Strazer land let them come forward,” he said.

He called on the youth to uphold their position as Strazer land belong to them and nobody can take it away from them.

He Therefore called on people of Sukuta, Salagi, Yundum, Lamin “and any other place that are facing land issue to know that the Brufut people and the Gambia Action Party (GAP) are standing shoulder to  shoulder with all of them.”
