Ambassador Lajos dismisses allegation

The European Union Ambassador to The Gambia has dismissed circulated allegation of EU giving financial assistance to The Gambia government in order to deny its citizens from going Europe.

Attila Lajos echoed and refuted the allegations saying “What the EU wants to put in place is to create a well-established legal way of migrating into the European nations. The EU is a welcoming union and so what we are aiming for is to have a good legal way of entering a country.”

He said many African citizens including The Gambians have lived in the European Union countries with their legal documents for many years while doing decent jobs. He said through that many Gambians were able to enter the work force of their respective host European countries after fulfilling their legal status to work.

According to him “now if you look at the number of Gambians working in the European countries and sending remittances back home to their families that will tell you how the EU is not interested in just denying citizens to enter their respective nations but also follow a legal migration system.

Without a legal status as a migrant one cannot simply work in a middle-class labour force as the EU is built on the foundation of legality and rule of law and this is what we believed in.”

He argued that the alleged allegations of the European Union countries denying African citizens including the Gambia entering into their countries for opportunities was not the issue. But reiterated that the EU wants to put a well-established legal migration system for citizens entering the European Union.
