Students attending grade 9 at Upper Basic Schools in 2020/21 school academic year resume their normal classes today (Wednesday) in all the sixth educational Regions of the country.
It would be recalled that in March this year, The Government of the Gambia made a proclamation of closing all schools as part of the effort to control the spread of the covid-19 through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE).
This decision taken by the Gambia Government was geared towards encouraging both social and physical distancing within the schools.
Ahead of today’s reopening of grade nine classes at Upper Basic Schools in the country, a high power educationists headed by MoBSE Minister, Claudiana A. Cole and her Permanent Secretary, Louis Moses Mendy last week Thursday visited “MRC-Holland Foundation” ongoing Covid-19 renovation and construction of classroom blocks project sites in Regions One and Two.
The main purpose of their visit was to assess the preparedness on the ground for today’s reopening of Grade 9 classes.
Today, according to Information Officer at MoBSE, Minister Cole and her top officials will commence school visit to Upper Basic Schools from Regions 1 in Kanifing to 4 in Mansakonko.
The first team which include Minister Cole and team will visit schools in Banjul, PS Mendy and team will be in schools within Kanifing and Region 2, DPS Jere Sanyang and team will visit schools in Foni today and on Thursday, PS Mendy will join DPS Sanyang to continue the visit to some schools in Region 4 in Lower River Region, Mansakonko, while DPS Adama Jimba Jobe and team will be in North Bank Region
