The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) Wednesday held one-day orientation for heads of its customs and domestic taxes on roles and responsibilities toward their works. This was spearheaded by the Institution’s human resources department.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, director of human resources and administration at GRA, Ernest Mendy, described the orientation as an opportunity for his officials to expressed their challenges and concerns.
He said the objective of the orientation was to update them on some of the development that are happening under the Authority.
He gave a background of the participants which he said are customs and tax officers and some of them are managers, senior officers at the level of the branches and border.
According to him, the role of his department is to coordinate human resources function that is the issues of recruitment, issues of training and development, as well as managing the staff.
He noted that at the Level of GRA, they have the service rule that give condition for service for staff, so that they will know what is there for them.
He said they also have the code of conduct, which is the rule and regulation what is expected of staff, and what is not expected of them.
For his part, the Commissioner General GRA, commended the department of HR for making the orientation a reality.
He dilated on the importance of capacity building and the importance of the orientation to his senior managers which cannot be over emphasized as it will greatly help them to better manage their junior staff at their office level. He therefore encouraged adhering to the HR policy. He also called for commitment, dedication and devotion and respect for hierarchy.
