Deputy Chief of mission at the United State Embassy in The Gambia has assured commitment of the US government against systematic injustice and racism of her country.
She made the statement on Saturday to organisers of a protest ‘Black lives matters’ against the murder of George Floyd and Momodou Lamin Sise at the American Embassy along Kairaba Avenue.
“The United State is a nation that is united on the concept of liberty and justice for all. The US government is now committed to stand against injustice and racism and is also more ready to working together with partners within US and outside in order to continue on the dialogue and discussion against the system of injustice and racism,” she said.
She added: “I wanted to recognize those who have organized the protest, as it is important in strengthening our democracy and freedom. I wanted to note that acts of racism are absolutely contrary to the ideals the United State is founded on. And we know that the United States is not perfect, but we strive to be more perfect.”
“It is so important that we have difficult conversations about this topic and we the United State commit ourselves to standing up against injustice and racism. We are a nation united on the concept for liberty and justice for all.
“And there is much to be done to bring about complete equality. And we will be calling to work together within the US and also with our partners and those in the Gambia to continue on this dialogue and discussion,” she said.
She further applauds the demonstrators for engaging the government of the United State on matters important for the improvement of human equality adding that as the US is open for dialogue and discussion on injustice.
“We are very pleased in engaging our government on matters of dialogue and discussions important in proving the act of injustice and racism in the US and all other parts of the world. We thank you for the peaceful protest as it is necessary for the enhancement of our democracy and system of rule,” she added.
