Information has reached The Voice that Fatou Bojang, a field coordinator for Gambia Committee on Harmful Traditional Practice affecting the Health of Women and Girl-Child (GAMCOTRAP) has been dismissed effect from July 1.
According to the dismissed letter signed by Gamcotrap’s board chair, Alhajie Yahya Jarjusey, Ms Bojang was dismissed due to her non-compliance to the rules and regulation of the organization.
It could be recalled that recently the board chair of GAMCOTRAP dismissed two staff claiming that the decision was from Save the Children International (SIC) office in Dakar, Senegal who awarded a project for to the local organization.
The dismissed staff denied that the order came from SIC. The Voice has contacted Save the Children International office in Dakar, Senegal to clear the air on this claim but they fail to reply after two weeks request.
However, the dismissal letter has further indicated that: “You (Fatou Bojang) went against the rules of the regulation with regards to discussing confidential organizational matters outside the organization.”
It added: “Your involvement in a press release about divulging the organization’s internal affairs such as you’re receive of warning letter can no longer be tolerated as confidential is key in the organizations is clearly stated in the compliance form you sign.”
It also added that Ms Bojang has been absent from work without permission or proper explanation as well as refusing to do assignments also leaving the work premises at will without due process.
Fatou Bojang confirmed the dismissal but denied all what the board chair indicated on the dismissal letter.
She said board dismissed her because she often complained to the management concerning the way the management is steering the affairs of the organization.
“I used to tell them humiliation, discrimination, nepotism and violation of women rights is very high in the office. I will not see that and keep quite. I used to called the executive director (Princess Munahot) and tell her that. So she was not comfortable with me in the office. That why they dismissed me,” she said.
On alleged sharing confidential official information
Ms Bojan described the allegation as bogus, saying she only discuss with the board members such as Imam Baba Leigh and Alhagie Yahya Jarjusey about the organization who are insiders.
She also denied of absenteeism and reporting to work late, saying she regularly goes to work and on time, adding she is doing her work as expected.
Meanwhile, all the dismissed staff announced to organize a presser to shed light on their dismissal soon.
