Buzz Women Gambia on Wednesday signed 400,000-dalasi borehole contract with women of Sukuta and also handed farm inputs including 4 bags of rice seed, cassava stem, potato stem, coos, beans and fertilizers to women of Fass Chabai and Gunjur.
Fatou Touray Cham, Coordinator of Buzz Gambia said: “after the Covid-19 fund raising, we thought to ourselves that agriculture is the answer, because most of the women do engage in gardening but at the end of the day they have low income.”
“We engage to see how they increase their productivity, they told us that they don’t have enough water supply, so we decided to use fund we raised during the pandemic fund and invest it to increase the water capacity for these women.
Having seen the garden, according to her, it has the capacity to take a lot of women but from the training conducted they have realized that the garden is not occupied to the fullest. She went on that the garden is a 16-hectare garden but they are using only 5 hectares.
She noted that at Buzz they don’t tell women what they want them to do, but rather they allow them to speak for themselves.
The expectation of Buzz is to see the beneficiaries to be able to support other communities, which will also help inspire other communities to follow steps.
Tom Senghore one of the officials from NARI also made some remarkable comments.
