The National Assembly’s committee on business has been demanded to scrutinize a criminal proceeding Bill that seeks to address trial issues.
This comes after Justice Dawda Jallow, Minister of Justice and Attorney General on Monday tabled the Bill before lawmakers for approval.
Tabling the bill, Justice minister Dawda Jallow told lawmakers that the Bill is to underline the Criminal proceedings code in current trends practices including provision of making occupations, our own free agreements lead to supervision on convicts, brutality sentencing in trial on operate bodies, private institutions, protection of witnesses and victims.”
“The Bill also streamlines the exercise of force discretion on granting bail and providing clear guideline in the administration of people.” He noted that, the Bill also seeks to reinforce the right clear signified of the accuse person by the specifying reasonable timelines which has to be adhere to by institutions and courts. The criminal proceeding Bill is a procedural component of it so is a side by side,” he added.
Meanwhile, MP for Wuli East, Suwaibou Touray said he believe and said “we must look closely the area of unsound mind as that area needs to be scrutinized because people with unsound mind are working around the street with dangerous weapons. Police seems not to care so I think the police need to always confirm to take action and take those people at the right place.”
According to him, something needs to be done in the speedy of cases as the objective of the bill should be to provide greater efficiency and grant these imperial crimes and to reduce delays in criminal justice which is a deep concern we should look into.
He said: “sometimes the police delay time when it comes to reporting than going ahead with the investigation without delay.”
Kiang central MP Bakary Camara appealed that this act should be given enough time to go into details as it needs proper scrutiny.
