Finance minister, Mambury Njie on Wednesday disclosed that 4.7 million dalasis was spent on President Adama Barrow’s 2019 November tour of the nation.
Answering to questions from lawmakers at the national assembly, minister Njie said: “I wish to inform the Honorable Member from Kiang Central that a total of GMD 4,791,105 was spent on the last presidential tour.”
President Barrow toured the nation in November of last year, a tour which covered 19 days with at least 44 meetings held by the Gambian leader.
National Assembly for Central Baddibou, Sulayman Saho who appeared bothered by the sum asked if the finance minister had any plan to ensure spending on such activity is cut in light of the crises the country is going through.
Mambury Njie said: “Honourable member, I have no plans. It’s a constitutional requirement and mandate for the president to go on tour. I have no plans.”
