The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment has lifted prohibition on export and re-export trade of essential commodities with immediate effect.
“This decision was based on the fact that businesses are now normalizing and most of the countries where The Gambia sources her imports have now relaxed their trade-related COVID-19 restrictive measures.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment wishes to inform the general public particularly the business community that Essential commodities Emergency Power Regulation 2020 has been reviewed and amended by lifting the prohibition on export and re-export trade of essential commodities with immediate effect,” the Ministry said in a statement dispatched on Monday.
According to the Ministry, the objective is to support the economic recovery processes from the effect of the Pandemic.
The statement pointed out that the business community is therefore encouraged to resume export and re-export of essential commodities.
“The Ministry will continue to monitor the development in both the international and domestic market and will appropriate actions when necessary to ensure the availability and affordability of essential food commodities.
Furthermore, the business community while undertaking the export and re-export trade is strongly advised to follow the Ministry of Health and WHO COVID-19 guidelines in order to contain the spread of the disease,” the statement concluded.
