‘EFSTH’s Mortuary is Not Overcrowded with Bodies’- PRO Sanneh

Kebba Samuel Nyanchor Sanneh, Public Relation Officer (PRO) Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) has refuted information making headlines on social media that country’s biggest hospital EFSTH is overcrowded with bodies.

He admitted   that the EFSTH’s mortuary is full but not to the number making headlines on social media.

“We have bodies that are not in the mortuary and this is not up to 100 or above, we talking about 10-20 and   that   management have created spaces by using store near the mortuary   to keep those bodies and they are all waiting for coronavirus testing and are all in good condition,” he said Tuesday

Commenting on the shortage of oxygen in all major hospitals in the country, Sanneh said he can only speaks for EFSTH. He said there are oxygen’s available in the country’s biggest hospital.

He urged Gambians to comply more seriously with the measures adopted to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

Sanneh lamented on the way some Gambians were given misleading information about what is happening at the hospital and measures put in place to fight the pandemic.

“The large majority of us continue to adhere to the protocols. Unfortunately, some do not; others have slackened, and an unacceptably significant number have refused to obey them all together, too,” he said.

“In such an atmosphere, if we do not take care, the virus will continue to spread, which will lead to intolerable pressure on our health facilities and caregivers. Each one of us must be part of the fight to stop the spread of the virus,” he said.
