Coronavirus has again killed two persons as one hundred and twenty-eight people newly tested positive for the virus bringing the numbers of confirmed cases to 799.
The Ministry of health said 30% of the infected patients are health workers from MRC, Pakala and Sharab Clinics.
The country’s coronavirus death toll now stands at sixteen.
The Ministry of Health said on Wednesday: “This is the 111th national situation report since the confirmation of the first case of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in The Gambia, on the 17th March 2020.”
“128 new cases registered –the highest reported in a single day thus far – taking the total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country to 799. About 30% of these are health workers mainly from MRC, Pakala and Sharab clinics.”
“2 new deaths recorded, bringing to 16 the total number of documented COVID-19 related deaths in the country – a crude case-fatality ratio of 2.0% Samples from both deceased cases was collected posthumously,” the Ministry said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has said six people among the one hundred and twenty-eight people tested positive are on the loose.
The Ministry added that three of the absconders’ have left the country secretly as one of the six was deported while two other absconders are at large in the country after escaping from their respective treatment centres.
The announcement comes amid high rise in virus cases in the country – that has plunged the country into fear.
“6 of the confirmed cases are at large – 1 was deported, 3 left the country surreptitiously prior to the release of their results and 2absconded from the treatment centres,” the Ministry of Health disclosed.
