Hundreds of students at the Nusrat Senior Secondary School Wednesday protested against the principal decision of sending part-time teachers’ home amid a spike in coronavirus cases.
The principal, Mamadi Ceesay, is reported to have sent almost ten teachers’ home until September as a measure to curb spread of coronavirus.
But the students however staged a protest demanding him to reverse his decision immediately or else they would boycott lessons.
The students also accused the principal of not doing enough in building the school to continue excelling in the academy arena, but he is only focused on restricting the building of the school.
The students could be seen holding placards with no respect to physical distancing amid a surge in coronavirus cases chanting ‘we need our teachers back ASAP’ as well as placards bearing.
Hours later the principal, Mamadi Ceesay, summoned an emergency meeting that showed the presence of the Amir of Ahmadiya Baba Trawally and officials at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and senior teachers of Nusrat.
The meeting was aimed at proffering a lasting solution to the crisis.
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education urged the school’s principal to revisit his decision to help the school grow in academy.
