We wish all our readers a belated wonderful Eid ul adha commonly known as Tobaski. We continue to pray that our beloved country be saved from the corona virus and that by next year the world is back to normal.
We have witnessed the demise of a lot of well-known personalities recently and the causes have been attributed to the corona virus. We have equally witnessed the rise in positive cases including our second in command in the Executive, the Vice President of the Republic. This should be of real concern to all.
Among the rising confirmed cases we have noticed the most affected are our medical staff. We therefore commend our health staff who are our staunch soldiers and front liners in this very critical fight against the corona virus. As we pray for their safety, we also commend the efforts of the Government through the Ministry of Health for their resolve to see that we are safe from this pandemic.
Gambians should be conscious of the danger we are facing and respect the recommendations of the WHO as well as the strict safety measures of the Government. We should learn to enforce these safety measures and avoid large public gatherings without protection.
It is also a moment to reflect on our health and environment during the rains. As the rains increase, we notice the destruction it is causing to our poor folk in the swamps as the floods in those areas creep into homes. We are also aware of the risk of increase in diseases such as malaria.
We call on the Government of the Gambia to please support the local government authorities to improve their areas to reduce the risk of floods and other rain related dangers. The collective effort of all is necessary to safe lives and protect the properties of the less privileged.
