Army has vowed to ‘severely’ punish a soldier caught deliberately drinking alcohol in a commercial vehicle.
The soldier identified as warrant Officer Class 2 Ousman Touray, which video emerged on late Tuesday on social media while deliberately drinking alcohol inside a commercial vehicle.
He is currently helping army in their investigation while in detention at Yundum Barracks.
Dozens of people used the social media to condemned this act – many of whom demanding the army to punish him.
Army spokesman Major Lamin K Sanyang told The Voice that “He’s been arrested currently and the matter will be taken to court. It is seriously unprofessional and unethical. He will be dealt with.”
“Now that he’s been arrested the whole incident is going to be investigated to find out what really happened and from that investigation, recommendations will come out as to what action to be taken.”
Major Sanyang added that “he was drunk while he is in uniform and this is an act which is not condone in the military – is unethical, is unprofessional and he will not go unpunished.”
“This is not who we are,” but professional and ethical he noted.
