BCC Holds Emergency Virtual Conference On Coronavirus

By Adama Makasuba

Mayor of Banjul City Council, Rohey Malick Lowe and team has convened an emergency virtual conference to proffer solutions in containing the spread of coronavirus in the capital city.

The council’s emergency virtual conference comes amid a sharp rise in coronavirus cases – infected 1,556 people, 43 people succumbed to the cold hand of the virus.

The council’s eleven point’s solution included: “to activate and ‘capacitise’ the COVID-19 City team, to launch an aggressive sensitisation campaign on the COVID-19 by involving all stakeholders.

“To reintroduce and reactivate hand-washing in homes and public places. To launch operation face mask wearing for all Banjulians. To further expand – know your status campaign as initiated by the Mayor of Banjul. To carry out regular monitoring of the entry and exit points in the City. Other points are to engage Central Government on the possibilities of establishing treatment quarantine centres in the event we have positive cases in Banjul, conscious of the fact that Central Government cannot do it all alone- and to engage the donor communities and international parties.”

“To identify and establish working relations with any stakeholder or well-wisher. To bring all hand-on deck. The need to unite regardless of their difference to fight against COVID-19. To engage all National Assembly members for a coordinated and concerted effort. To engage all wards in the City, if possible, decentralize the fight against COVID-19.To have a rapid response team or mechanism for the timely evacuation of patients and corpse. To the Banjul Red Cross,” the authorities added.

But the team couldn’t finish proffering measures as they adjourned the virtual conference to another date.
