History will certainly record 2020 as the worst year for businesses all over the world. COVID-19 and its dramatic spread has affected livelihoods, communities, and businesses. With the imposed curfew and the timetable of business opening hours, it seems many local businesses will be gravely affected as a result and many might not survive this.
Where Government might not be able to provide funds to support all, there should be some measure to alleviate the burden on these poor local businesses to allow them make ends meet.
For example, a tax break for larger businesses could be a good start and tax exemptions for smaller businesses could be another help. The communities buying goods and services, especially those living literally from hand to mouth need be given the chance to see the goods they seek affordable.
Thus, it means, part of the measures would consider cutting prices lower to allow people who are on half salaries to be able to afford enough to live on. Otherwise, we might create a very volatile situation where people would find it difficult to survive and could resort to violence.
Another consideration is those whose businesses are normally more profitable at night. These businesses are seriously affected too and thus many would be losing their jobs and this will affect many families.
The Government should seriously consider the economic situation and make the right decisions before it becomes unbearable.
