Gambia Covid-19 cases increase again, 183 new cases plus 9 deaths

The latest situational report 120th  issued by the Ministry of Health on Sunday afternoon has revealed another sharp increase in the number of coronavirus pandemic in The Gambia has 183 new cases with 9 new Covid-19 related deaths recorded.

The above brings the total death registered cases by the country to 63 – a crude case-fatality ration of 3.4%. Which, Samples from all but one of the new fatalities were collected posthumously. The median age at death of the new fatalities (6 males and 3 females) is 65 years (range: 42 to 86 years)

Meanwhile, 183 new cases registered, taking the total number of Covid-19 cases ever confirmed in the country to 1,872.

“This represents a 40% test positivity rate (183 out of 462 total tests performed). The median age of the new cases is 37 years (range – 1to 86 years),” the report noted.

Furthermore, “54 new discharges effected from the treatment centres, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to date to401 (22.0% recovery rate). And 462 new laboratory test results received from MRCG and NPHL.”

The reported added that 18 new tests returned in-determinant and 183 new tests were positive for Covid-19, whereas, 4 person were newly taken into quarantine, 17 new discharges were made

In conclusion, the country currently has 332 people in quarantine, 1,408 active cases, 183 probable cases and a crude case-fatality ration of 3.4%.
