Scores of Gambians have called on Barrow-led government to ease the coronavirus regulations to help for survival purpose.
The scores call comes as government extended the night curfew to another 21 days in a bid to stem the spread of coronavirus.
A shopkeeper at Serrekunda market, AboulieSallah, said the government should not extend the curfew, saying this regulation has definitely affected the populace such as business people and commercial drivers.
He added that he often goes to the market at 8:00 am and close at 15:00pm which he said is unfavorable to him and all business people across the country.
However, the business man said there is need for Government to revise this regulation and allow all business people to work throughout the day.
“This regulation is truly affecting my business because now I only sell half of what I was selling before the implementation of this regulation,” he noted.
“One or two people getting into a shop will not spread the coronavirus as many think,” he said, adding the government should maintain the wearing of mask and the restriction on public gathering while open the markets throughout.
He said, if the authorities fail to open the market for twenty-four hours many average Gambians will continue to suffer.
Alieu Bojang, a commercial driver said the Government should not extend the curfew, saying many are suffering due to this regulation.
“The curfew is affecting our (commercial drivers) work severely because the time we should try to earn that is the time people are force to go home,” he said.
He added that many commercial drivers particularly those working at night are not earning as they were before the curfew.
Another commercial driver, Muhammed Sawaneh, said as long as the COVID-19 exists in the country there is need for Government to extend the curfew in order to prevent more infections.
However, he was quick to add that if the Government is to extend the curfew it should also increase the time for curfew, saying instead of 10:00pm Government can commence the operation by mid night.
“The curfew starting by 10:00pm is severely affecting us (commercial drivers),” he noted.
Sheikh Muhammed Fall, cloth seller at the Serekunda market also said Government should open the markets throughout so that business people will sell their product to expectation.
“No one can control this disease. Even the United State of America cannot control this disease; therefore, we cannot control it as well. So, government should allow everyone to work throughout the day,” he said.
