Gambia Democratic Congress(GDC) youth leader has described government 21 days curfew that ended Thursday aimed to control the spread of coronavirus have on ‘direction.’
Momodou MC Cham comments come a day before the 21 days night curfew will elapse.
But he proffered solution the state should look into other ways in curbing spread of coronavirus than imposing night curfew, adding the state should start to hold sensitisation dialogue with Gambians and advise them to continue wearing facemasks and regular hand washing with detergent.
“My piece of advice to the government about the night curfew is for them to stop it and find another way hence the state of public emergency has not yet elapsed, because all the bars and restaurants are closed.
“I see no understanding in imposing the curfew at night, because during the day people moving in and out of the markets,” he told The Voice.
He added: “Is only Gambia which has curfew now, if you go to countries like Sweden…even Senegal which has more cases has stopped the curfew. What the government should do now is to talk to the Gambians to respect the measures in place by always wearing facemasks and regular hand washing.”
According to him, Gambians are now suffering due to the curfew adding “left to me, we don’t need curfew- lets only respect the protective measures against coronavirus.”
