In his contribution towards easing burden of the needy amid of the coronavirus pandemic, His Royal Highness (Rtn) Moshood MK Abolade, King of the Yoruba Community of Nigeria in The Gambia over the weekend distributed food items to some needy people.
The distributed food items included milk, rice, garri (cassava flakes) among others. Prior the recent distribution, he as well donated cash and facemasks to the Red Cross at early stage of the pandemic.
In his remarks, HRH Abolade urged everyone to be brothers’ keeper in this pandemic situation through sharing and caring for one and another.
He added that the only way to get closer and make everyone happy as the pandemic continues is to rejoice with each other and continue giving thanks to God for His protection and pray for speed recovery of the infected people while the souls of those killed by the virus rest in peace.
As there is sharp increase in the number of recorded cases in the country, he therefore urged everyone to always observe the WHO and health Ministry’s guidelines to curb the contacting and spread of the virus which he said knows no boundary.
However, since the confirmation of the first case of the novel coronavirus disease in the country in March 2020, over 2,800 people have been infected while over 90 number of Covid-19 related death cases have been recorded.
Since the increase of Covid-19 cases in the country, the Ministry of Health has recommended different steps to be taken which include imposition of stringent lockdown measures in the country in order to curb the spread of the virus, strict adhere to IPC measures in all public and private health, healthcare facilities, provision of adequate stocks of PPEs to all health facilities, health workers to observe all Covid-19 preventive measures including the donning of appropriate PPEs at all times and implementation of updated quarantine and isolation guidelines.
