Together Africa Gambia Organization (TAGO) in partnership with Young Africa Network for Global Goal, has revealed a D96,000 budget for nationwide tree planting.
The project which comprises 25 African countries, seeks to provide 500 seedlings for the seven administrative regions which is hoped to help in restructuring the forests and promote the country’s wildlife conservation.
It also aims to connecting Africa through cultural heritage, peace advocacy and youth empowerment project.
Communities will be allowed to choose the types of species of trees they would want to plant. This will be spearheaded by the National Environment Agency, Forestry and Agriculture to give them the technical support on the soil system.
TAGO’s vice-president Madam Fatou said they have seen that trees are very limited in The Gambia and “if trees are limited there will be no enough rain and there will be loss of animals in the forest.”
Lamin Jammeh, the group’s chairperson called on the commitment of public especially regional governors, chiefs and village heads with young people to take ownership of the project.
“We are going to meet all the national youth council in all the regions and work with them hand in glove to make sure that this tree growing exercise is completed,” he said.
According to him, the Africa Gambia organization will also engage young people in all the regions to make sure that they have the people under the ground who are going to take care of the tree as they want the sustainability of them.
