GRA revenue collection rises to D7billion within Seven Months

Authoritative sources have revealed that the revenue collection of The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), ranging from January to end of July 2020 has risen to D7billion.

A development confirmed over the weekend by Mr Yankuba Darboe, Commissioner General of The Gambia Revenue Authority.

According to him, the Gambia Revenue Authority was tasked to collect D12.5Billion in 2020 as revenue target but due to the negative impact of the deadly corona virus caused on the businesses, the Ministry of Finance in consultation with the Authority,  reviewed and reversed the said target accordingly, subsequently the  2020  revenue target was  reduced to D10.1Billion.

He said this means that The Gambia will lose over D2Billion due to the Coro-navirus pandemic. But assured that the Gambia Revenue Authority, despite this difficult period of this covid-19 , GRA  will surely  meet Government set revenue target before the end of 2020.

He cited that it all possible to maximizing revenue collection due to the introduction of Technology within their operation in revenue collection.

Secondly, he said their engagements  with tax  payer  is so effective that compliance  level  has increased  significantly  meaning more revenue  for GRA among others  administrative measures.

Commissioner Darboe Went on to commend the public Enterprises  companies for increasing voluntary tax compliance without which it will be very difficult for GRA  to collect such amount of money in a monthly bases.

GRA boss also commended his management and staff for the hard work and determination, as collection of tax is not a child play.

The GRA boss called on all and sundry to voluntarily come forward and pay their taxes as GRA is mandated to collect taxes for national development.

He emphasized that GRA will remain ever committed to ensuring that GRA play its rightful role in mobilizing the required financial resources for the realization of the development aspiration of the country.
