Vulnerable families in Upper Nuimi and CRR South have benefited from the ActionAid International-The Gambia D3.6 million cash transfer and reusable sanitary materials.
The cash transfer was made to 1, 998 and the reusable sanitary pads to 3,844 in North Bank Region and Central River region South respectively as a respond to Covid-19 global pandemic.
The distribution by the AAITG was as a result of surveyed made about the Covid-19 impact assessment respond on vulnerable families in the North Bank Region and Central River region south.
The cash transfer exercises to 841 households in Upper Nuimi is part of AAITG commitment to complement government’s efforts in the fight against Covid-19
Foday Kanyi, Project Manager Resilience, Livelihood and Climate Justice at ActionAid International-The Gambia disclosed that AAITG and its partners – European Union, Eco-zones and Apexes have reprogrammed its 2020 programme activities to money amounting to D3.6 million. This amount targets 1,998 most vulnerable households and distribution of 3,844 reusable sanitary pads in Central River Region south ( Naimina East , West, and Dankunku) and North Bank Region (Upper Nuimi District).
Since the confirmation of the first case on March 17th the government has put in place restrictions measure to curb the spread of the virus. Such restrictions include a lockdown of all non-essential services.
“Despite these restrictions have been relaxed to allow both essential and non-essential businesses and services to open, weekly markets in the rural areas remain closed,” he noted.
He however called for good coordination of all disaster and emergency issues in the country. He added that it is crucial to enhance transparency and accountability and build partnerships with NDMA at Regional levels
According to him, at the end of the support there will be participatory Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM) to determine the effectiveness and relevance of the response.
