Mayor Lowe distributes over 36,000 facemasks in Banjul

Banjul Mayor, Honorable Rohey Malick Lowe has distributed more than 36,000 facemasks among dozens of councilors in Banjul which seeks to help in slowing down the spread of coronavirus.

The beneficiary wards include Campama, Crab Island, Box Bar, New town west, Jollof, Hamza Barack, Half die, Soldier town and Portuguese Town.

The distribution was part of her “operation 100,000 facemasks Initiative” for the people of Banjul and The Gambia, which is a response to suppress the COVID-19 in the country.

Speaking during the distribution ceremony, Mayor Lowe said: “facemask plays a key role in slowing down the transmission of the virus and the wards is full of vulnerable people, so these facemasks will go a long way.”

“It is important for central government to put its effort by creating a healthy environment for inhabitant of the capital city but that has been neglected,” she added.

She added that they will later extend the distribution of the facemasks to the other parts of the country through the local government authorities.

She commended all donors who have contributed immensely to make the initiative a reality, adding that “we seek for more support to be able to reach our target before the schedule date.”
