The National Youth President of Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has accused President Adama Barrow for violating the COVID-19 regulation recommended by World Health Organization and Gambia’s Ministry of Health.
Following the novel coronavirus outbreak in China, the World Health Organization recommended to the world to avoid public gathering, observe social distancing and regular washing of hands with soap under a running tap to avoid the spread of the deadly disease.
This recommendation led President Barrow to ban all forms of public gatherings, closed schools and universities in the country until his recent launched of 88km Hakalang feeder road in Niumi, North Bank Region.
Speaking to The Voice, MC Cham described President Barrow’s Saturday public gathering as efforts to undermine the country’s efforts of combatting the coronavirus by organizing a meeting at Kerewan Badibu during the laying of the foundation of the Hakalang Road.
He stressed that the gathering held at Kerewan did not adhere to the WHO recommended social distancing rules as well as section 6 of the Public Health Act which he said could spread the COVID-19.
“Health experts, development partners, and WHO are working hard to contain and eradicate the COVID- 19 in the country.
The WHO and Ministry of Health recommendation did not exempt any person in the COVID-19 regardless of position,” he said.
He furiously asked whether President Barrow is above the laws or did he fails to understand he is undermining the country’s efforts to fight the corona virus pandemic in the country,” he said.
Cham added that despite the Head of State is desperate to perpetuate his rule, he should know that this year (2020) is not the best time for political leaders to encouraged large gatherings.
He called on President Barrow to be an exemplary leader and remember that he is not above the law in anyhow.
