Bakery Badjie’s appointment is one of the best decisions made by President Adama Barrow, National Youth Council’s outgoing chair told a youth summit that gathered more than 50 youth across the country.
Dembo Kambi said: “There cannot be any moment we can thank Almighty God than this moment because he has given us our own brother.”
According to him, previously Youth and Sports Minister had to go through orientation at the youth council in order to do their official duties as expected.
He however said: “Mr Badjie’s appointment is a different case because he is going to implement his youth work knowledge in the Ministry but not to learn from the council, because he has a vast experience in youth work.”
“He (Badjie) is not coming to learn from us, he is coming to implement because he has the knowledge already,” he added.
He praised Mr Badjie to have worked hand-in-hand with the nation’s youth organizations, adding he had once served in the Kanifing Municipal Youth Committee at NYC.
“Two years down the line he (Badjie) left us (NYC) and got nominated to serve as a councilor representing the interest of the young people of Kanifing Municipality at the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC),” Mr Kambi said.
He described Minister Badjie as a gentleman, consistence person, and a man of principle who is always willing to work in the best interest of the youth while urged Gambian youth to support the new Minister to ensure he attains the sustainable development goal that all youths yearn for on daily basis.
