The local authorities of Sabach Sanjal district,Norh Bank Region has launched a personate appeal to President Adama Barrow government to construct inter village roads network to ease movement of goods and services.
The request for government intervention was conveyed to the Regional Governor Lamin Saidykhan during a district authority meeting held in Ngain Sanjal in the North Bank Region as part of creating awareness. The Department of Information Services, Health, Department of Social Welfare and Department of Community Development sensitized alkalolu and opinion leaders in Sabach Sanjal on important of Gambia Social Registry exercise.
Ebrima Njie Deputy Director at Department of Information Services said the sensitisation would help local authorities to support team of enumerators to collect authentic data that can help to inform government and donors on current realities on the ground.
Chief Malick Bouy of Sabach Sanjal said: “the community of Ngain Sanjal has allocated land to Ministry of Interior for construction of Police Station and quarters for staff. He said the construction of police station will strengthen manpower and logistics and contribute to respond to all forms of criminal activities and boost security.”
He stated that the Regional Governor made assurance of government commitment to provide space for alkalolu to share their development challenges without fear and intimidation.
Governor Lamin Saidykhan hailed Sabach Sanjal district authority for their support to government development agenda.
He disclosed that President Adama Barrow will lay foundation stone for construction of road project in Sabach Sanjal.
Governor Saidykhan commended the community of Ngain Sanjal for allocation of land for police station and assured of his office support such mobility for alkalolu.
Momodou Suku Naban alkalo Kani Kunda Tenda expressed concerned on inadequate water supply for his village revealing that this had resulted to people’s travels on daily base using horse carts to fetch water from river side as he launched appeal to support Kani Kunda Tenda with borehole.
Alkalo Naban said poor condition of roads in Sabach Sanjal has poised greatest challenges on the development needs of people.
Alh. Jim Jallow alkalo of Sabach Njien called for expansion of electricity supply to communities to boost security and economic activity. Alkalo Ousman Jallow of Balo Omar also called for better incentives for alkalolu, noting that commission on rates and taxes to alkalolu paid by Kerewan Area Council ispoor.
Aja Maimuna Sey Prominent Women Leader and Ida Faye Women Councillor of Sabach Sanjal said lack of cold storage facility for perishable products e.g. tomatoes and marketing remains a biggest challenge to women farmers. The duos call for available markets for farm produce for perishable products, noting that women in Sabach Sanjal has no market and resulted to losses.
Kebba lang Camara of Songhai Agricultural Training Centre at Chamen informed district authority and youths to take up agricultural training opportunity provided by government and UNDP to harness youth’s capacity and to be self-employ. He said the centre commenced registration of intake to undergo 12 months training.
