Baboucarr Faye, a young man, was on Thursday arraigned before Magistrate Dunn Njie of the Kanifing Magistrate Court after he was apprehended by the Drug Law Enforcement Agents for having in possession substances suspected to be illegal drugs.
He was charged for being in possession of prohibited drugs contradicts Section 35 Subsection 2 [b] of the Drug Control Act, 2003.
Baboucarr Faye had pleaded not guilty of the offence against him.
According to the particulars of offence, Baboucarr Faye on or about the 22nd day of December, 2019, at Kotu in Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, had in his possession 180g of cannabis sativa, a prohibited drug, without a valid license and thereby commit an offence.
He was granted bail on the condition that he was guaranteed by two adult Gambian sureties, who were to swear to an affidavit of means of D10, 000 each. They would also surrender their I.D. cards to the Registrar of the Court. The accused shall also surrender all travelling documents to the Registrar, and ask for permission from the Court whenever he wants to travel outside the country.
Faye was prosecuted by Drug Law Enforcement Agents (DLEA) prosecutor E.S. Ceesay and the case was adjourned to the 29th of October, 2020
