The family of a 16-year-old Gambian held in custody in Senegal has been promised of their child release following an in-house talk done by Child Protection Alliance and Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare.
The child rights institution said in a statement: “Child Protection Alliance earlier this morning with officials from the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare visited the family of a 16-year-old minor who is currently in contact with the law in Senegal, at a family house in Bakau.”
The statement emphasised that the visit was meant to obtain first-hand information from the family about a case involving the minor.
Binta Fatty, Director of Child Protection at the Ministry, expressed concern about the welfare of children particularly the case of the 16-year-old. She said her directorate will do everything possible to secure the release of the minor.
CPA National Coordinator Lamin Fatty informed that the organization has engaged relevant stakeholders to facilitate the minor’s release and assured the family that they will hold the government in account and do everything possible to make sure that the minor is release.
