By Sulayman Waan

Idrissa Seck, leader Rewmi political party in Senegal has called on President Macky Sall Government to support the youth of Senegal to enable them realize their goals in their country.

The president of the Rewmi party, Idrissa Seck, came out of his long silence to express his “concern” about the resurgence of the phenomenon in recent times.

“We learned with emotion the disappearance of many young candidates to the perilous adventure of “Barça or Barakh”, following the explosion of their boat on the high seas; we offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved families and loved ones,” he wrote in a note.

According to him “the resurgence of clandestine emigration by sea is a social drama that is of the utmost concern to us.” Indeed, nearly a thousand young Senegalese migrants were intercepted on the high seas in less than a month by the French Navy.

Several others died following the explosion of their pirogue off Mbour last Friday. The official balance sheet of this accident is still not established, the police investigation is still ongoing.

Faced with the growing power of this phenomenon, Idrissa Seck invites “the State must support the youth so that they realize that they can succeed at home and that the future they must build is here in Africa.

However, the irregular migration to European countries continues within the Senegambia sub-region.

Despite the European Union pumping multimillion Euros within the Senegambia sub-region both Gambian and Senegalese youth continue to embark on irregular migration for greener pasture in Europe.

In December 2019 large numbers of Gambian youth died in the Mediterranean Sea while trying to escape poverty.
