National Intelligent Agent has been accused of stealing D16, 000 after the failed attempted coup made by Ndure Cham which led to the arrest of many soldiers and civilians in 2006.

On Tuesday testifying at Truth Reconciliation and Reparation Commission (TRRC), after the attempted coup made by Duru Cham;  Alieu Lowe a businessman said “NIA came to my house at 3am in the morning. After opening the door I was slapped and later  Abdoulie Sowe and Lamin Cham searched my room and they took D16,000, mobile phone, ring and my bank book.”

“Abdoulie Sowe started beaten me until I was unconscious and in the vehicle they continued to hit me with gun. They headed to Farato to arrest my brother Mustapha Lowe then continued to Banjul at NIA where they put us in cell,” he narrated.

He went further that if he can recall they spend three days without trial and they were taken out for torture with pipe but the session did not take long. After the three days they were taken to mile II.

Meanwhile, he narrated his involvement in Ndure Cham attempted coup “on Saturday Duru Cham called for his help and he said to me he was up to something, then I asked him what is it. He said he is a civilian he cannot tell me,” he explained.

He added that one day at night around 9:00pm Ndure Cham called him to meet him at Gunjur, adding that something is happening in the country and he is too sure of himself.

According to him they later met at Gunjur where he told him that something is worrying him and that a coup d’etat was about to happen in the country while they later took a vehicle to Brikama and there he left Ndure Cham.

“When I returned to Latrikunda Ndure Cham called me again to meet at Farato and while we were there around 4am in the morning that was when he revealed to me that a coup d’etat was taken place but now he wants to live the country,” he said.

After his retuned around daybreak Ndure Cham called him and said he was at cassamace border. “I asked him what about us and he said to me just sit there nothing will happened. That day there was a soldier I saw but I didn’t know him, he mentioned my name when he was arrested.”

However Alieu Lowe spent over five years at Mile II with serious torture at NIA at Banjul without any trial.
