Yero Jallow, candidate of Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has said with confidence that he will landslide victory in the November 7 Bye-election in Niamina West.
Mr Jallow and Birom Sowe are contesting to replace late honourable Demba Sowe who died last December while on a business trip in Moroccan capital, Rabat.
Campaigns have been tensing in the district after United Democratic Party backed the GDC while President Barrow’s National People’s Party earned support from the National Reconciliation Party (NRP), People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Gambia Party for Democracy and Progress (GPDP), and National Conventional Party (NCP).
Speaking to The Voice exclusively, Yero Jallow said: “I am one hundred percent (100%) confident that I will win the election. This constituency is ‘no go area’ for other political parties.”
He said the UDP and GDC are the only political parties that have many supporters in Niamina West Constituency and added that as long as UDP is backing GDC no doubt he will sweep the pool on November 7.
He said his party won the 2016 presidential elections, 2017 National Assembly elections and the Local Government elections in the CRR south Constituency.
“Based on these records it would not be surprising if the GDC win the election much more if we are supported by the UDP,” he said.
He added as long as the GDC and UDP had come together they would get a landslide victory in this By-election.
Mr Jallow dismissed rumour that NRP has many supporters in the Niamina West constituency, saying the UDP is the only party that can be compared with the GDC in the Constituency.
He called on all and sundry to avoid any forms of violence in the on-going campaign as well post-election, adding “Let’s maintain peace and unity, election should not divide us.”
He appealed to the electorate to vote for the GDC to ensure he brings development to their doorsteps while added that voting for the NPP candidate means to retard Niamina West developmental process.
