Former speaker of the national assembly has called on fellow Gambians to stand and fight together and end cybercrimes against women – as she asked them join a moment fighting to end such crimes in the country.
Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay was speaking to hundreds of women and men over the weekend during a Refela-Gambia chapter nationwide annual general meeting and tour, held at Kotu.
Her call also comes amid a spike in cybercrime and bullying against renowned Gambian men and women – as she urged men and women in the country to submit a private member bill to the National Assembly and end all forms of cybercrimes against people.
Former Speaker Jahumpa-Ceesay said: “There is something going on and they are brutalising women on the media and the internet. They did it to a male and female, who will be next, no one, knows.”
“Let’s stand up together there is a movement that’s working to end cybercrimes against women of The Gambia and you must join that movement.
“And we must take this matter to parliament and we don’t even need a female MP to take this private member bill to parliament but it has to be done by a male MP because we are their mother’s. Respect women, please respect women,” she added.
