Smokers have slammed government ban on selling sticks of cigarette saying the authorities should have banned importation of tobacco rather than on sticks sale.
Last month police were given absolute right to effect ban on public smoking as shopkeepers are urged to avoid selling sticks of cigarette.
But the new law doesn’t go down well with smokers, who said argued that it is not the right move that should have been taken. They agreed that, the right move is to cut-off the importation of the item once and for all, but it shouldn’t be allowed into the country and then people coerced in to selling or buying in packs.
Some smokers said that, they had wanted to leave it, but because they are seeing it every day, they can’t, adding this can’t eliminate the incidence of teenage smoking in the country, since teenagers can contribute and buy packs, even if cigarette packs were to be sold for D1, 000 each.
Meanwhile, others argued that, this may lead to higher abuse of cannabis in the country, because others may divide attention to the contraband.
Nevertheless, most agreed that, the importation should be cut-off and outlawed for the better.
