The Sheriff Division of the High Court yesterday ordered the family of the late Baba Jobe, the former majority leader and national assembly for Jarra West to vacate their compound at Kololi.
The officials led by Modou Musa claimed the order was from the Ministry of Justice but no official letter was tendered to the tenant of the house to justify the order which led to a tension between the officials and the family members.
Earlier this year, President Adama Barrow has ordered for the suspension of sale of the properties of the exiled former President Yahya Jammeh while the widow of Baba Jobe, Tida Jaiteh-Jobe earlier last year through her lawyer filed an appeal before the Supreme Court against the adverse findings of the Commission of Inquiry established to investigate the financial dealings of the former president, close associates and family which is pending before the Supreme Court.
Most of the properties of the late Jarra parliamentarian were seized and auctioned by the Janneh commission including all his vehicles.
One of the brothers who have been fighting to ensure his brother’s properties are returned to the family has expressed disappointment by the decision taken by the State.
The tension was defused after the Jobe family contacted their lawyer to inform him about the situation on the ground and asked the officials to return the key to the tenant while police were also on the ground to monitor the situation and the officials were asked to return the key to the tenant.
“I am disappointed by the decision taken by the commission because the vehicles that are to be sold do not only belong to Jammeh. When Jammeh fell out with my late brother, he forcefully seized all his vehicles and other assets including the cows which actually belong to my late mother. We have been exercising patience for too long and we have reached the limit of our patience. All we want now is to suspend the sales and return our assets that were forcefully seized from our brother by the former president,” Mr Jobe emotionally told this The Voice.
Jobe’s who claimed that they are disappointed and betrayed by the government further told this medium that they are in close contact with their lawyer to see how they could recover their properties.
