Yunus Silla, Proprietor of Yunus English School has told graduating students to be wary of the temptations associated with early marriage and back-way syndrome, noting that many young graduates has fallen in the wrong side of these societal cankerworm that has derailed their progress and opportunities.
He made this statement on Saturday 5th December, 2020, at the Busumbala Community Hall, where the school bids farewell to 83, Upper Basic Students and 135 Senior Secondary School Students who have all successfully completed their three years academic programs at the school.
“Students I would like to tell you that the world is not an easy home, the education you got here is just a starting point for you. You need to go to the college, to the university, you shouldn’t rush for marriages and back-way journeys, these Syndromes can bring you down,” Yunus Silla, told the 7th batch of graduates.
He added: “You can plan from now to extend your education to go higher and become future leaders of this great country. I have no doubt that were you are able to complete this journey of you’re here, you can go further for many other accomplishment in life.”
According to him, the excellent results delivered by the students is largely squared down to the hard-work and dedication of their teachers, adding that teachers have been going extra miles in offering extra classes to students after the Covid-19 lockdown geared towards producing good results for students, parents and the school.
Yunus English top man hailed the tremendous support the school continue to garner from its board of directors, Alkalo and villagers of Busumbala, the Parents Teachers Association and the regional education office, adding that without these supports the school wouldn’t reach this far of becoming the top schools in the country.
He summed up by paying special tribute to veteran educationist, Babucarr Boye, whom one of the schools classroom block was named after, for his continuous support rendered to the school, revealing that it was the courtesy of Boye why the school has survive the test of time through sound advises, engagements and counseling.
Speaking at the occasion, Ansumana Sanno, Principal Yunus English Senior Secondary School stated that out of 135, students who sat to the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), 78 has scored 6 credits and above, adding that this is an opportunity to deserving students to either get enrolments at the college or university to further their educational career..
Principal Sanno, paid special tribute to the teachers of the school for their resilience, commitment and hard-work as amplified by the results of the students, while urging the graduates to always demonstrate kindness and avoid arrogance, proudness and always surrender themselves to good mentors and companions for guidance and counseling.
According to Lamin Tabally, Principal Upper Basic School 43 students of the Upper Basic School sat to the Gambia Basic Schools Certificate Examinations (GaBECE), out of which 25 fall within the range of aggregate 6-20, while the rest falls between aggregate 20-43.
“Even though Covid-19, affected us badly badly due largely to significant loss of teaching hours, there was no failure among the students who sat to the past GaBECE examination in 2020. This successes could partly be credited to the relentless efforts of the school authorities and teachers who worked in unison to the introduced extra classes beyond normal classes that greatly helped the students in their final examinations,” Principal Tabally disclosed.
Abdou M. Kujabi, Cluster Monitor Region Two doubling as Guest Speaker of the occasion, recognizes the good works of the Proprietor of Yunus English School for his continuous dedication in inspiring and moulding thousands of Gambians students into productive citizens, adding that such selfless service and work must be recognised and emulated by nationals yearning for the development of the country.
Kujabi urges the young graduants to be wary of the bumpy road ahead, arguing that with hardwork, commitment and perseverance success will continue to follow on their path, adding that graduates must continue serving as good ambassadors of the school and the region by contributing positively towards the development of the country.
Other Speakers at the event included Musa Kijera, member Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and Kaddy Samateh, Ex-Student of the school who all hailed the school authorities and staff for the good job they continue to demonstrate, while urging the graduants to continue pursuing further education and defy all negative temptations that may derail their future opportunities.
The event was characterized by musical entertainment and display of cultural talents by various cultural groups of the school and attended by parents, relatives and love ones across the country.
