Tombong Jadama, spokesperson of Tug of War Association of The Gambia has called on The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) to hold a congress before the end of 2020.

He added: “We need to be respected as partners to develop our athletes because without them we can’t be recognized.

“Let’s take an example today the Gambia have African Champions who we expected to be at the elite performances centre but is surprising enough she is now in high performances in Senegal which to me is very embarrassing.”

Speaking further, he said the GNOC term has expired since November 4, 2020, adding that this expiration prompted many athletic associations unanimously called on the committee to organize a meeting to ensure all stakeholders discuss how a congress would be held.

He said further in the statement that  following some associations reaction to the GNOC for failing to organize a congress; officials of GNOC started calling various associations and telling them to against the associations demanding a congress to be held this year.

“We never accepted GNOC as a professional institution to call association by phone without writing to them and inform them of any issues concerning whatever decisions they feel to discuss with the associations,” he said.

Moving on, he informed the GNOC executive that many countries across the globe have done their congress this year.

“Why the GNOC executive is refusing to hold a congress. A Country that is going with only one athlete and a wild card,” he asked.
