The Network Against Gender-Based Violence [NAGBV] has launched a D20 million project to help in the fight against gender based violence (GBV). The project will last for two years.
It was funded by Amplify Change through ActionAid International The Gambia under the banner “Consolidating the Capacity of NGBV, Towards Combating GBV we Realizing SRHR of young people and girls”
ActionAid- The Gambia head of program, Fanta Jatta Sowe said: “the project will concentrate on youth in all the regions across the country and it will strengthen the capacity of NGBV to be more effective in its coordinating role and supporting governance and control systems of NGBV.”
According to her the project are targeting people living with HIV/AIDs, especially women, persons with disabilities and also those working in hotels as well as domestic workers.
“We do not know in most of the cases, domestic workers are left out”, she said.
Sarjo Camara, project coordinator EU Women Empowerment Project said the project aims to promote gender equality, equal opportunities and commitment to the principles of social justice and good governance.
“The project is about strengthening the capacity building of the NAGBV to be more effective in its subordinating role, support the government, control systems of the NAGBV and some of its members to be more resilient sources,” she said.
She added further that the project is also meant to mobilize citizens’ actions for SRHR to be realized, also targeting young people and other vulnerable people such as people living with HIV/AIDS, women, people with disabilities, hotels and domestic workers.
