The Gambian singer, One Pac, has apologised to the Christian community and Gambians in general for his post which sparked outrage among scores of Gambians – both Christians and Muslims.
His apology comes few hours after he posted a crucifixion picture on social media which attracted a heap of condemnation from lots of people on social media who branded the post as ‘blasphemy’ while they demanded him to apologise.
Public reactions to the post triggered the singer to be dropped from an upcoming concert organised by Mamie Diarra Production – following the condemnation of one of Gambia’s telecommunications companies -Qcell.
However, in a 51-video post which emerged on social media, One Pac said he did the post to help unify the community and send his Christmas message to his Christian friends.
“I really do want to apologise especially to the Christian community and the whole world that my post of being on the cross was not meant for provocation and not meant for disrespecting to any faith,” he said, and added that “the blame and the fault are all me (from him).”
He added: “I am just calling people to salvation what I think and deemed fit and just did that post to give Christmas to my Christian friends. If you are offended, I am really touched and sorry.”
QCELL in a statement strongly condemned the act saying “in no uncertain terms the use of insensitive and offensive images that have caused concern in the Christian community in The Gambia and the use of our branding on such images is completely unacceptable”.
“QCELL has informed the promoter that we will not sponsor any show that features ‘One Pac’ and we have been assured that the artist will not be on the upcoming show,” the statement added.
One Pac has been also dropped from holding a concert with one of Gambia’s rapper, QCELL said.
