  Police Warn Public of Lightening Fireworks

Police have warned the public to desist from lightening fireworks and explosive around risk prone places during the eve of New Year.

“As we usher into New Year festivities, the office of the Inspector General of Police wishes to remind the public that due care must employ in the handling of fireworks and explosives.

“The public is further advise to seek clearance for the use of heavy explosives and fireworks from the Gambia Fire and Rescue Services before using them at public places,” police said in a statement.

The statement added: “Furthermore, fireworks and explosives must not be lit around risk prone public places such as electric poles, markets, car parks among others to avert unforeseen circumstances. Similarly, the general public particularly young people are hereby warned to desist from joy riding and car racing along public roads and places during the festivities.”
