Taking into consideration the misconception of some people about its operation in the country, QNET in collaboration with the Network of Finance and Tax Reporters (NFTR) Sunday, 10th January, 2021 held a day long interactive meeting with members of press in the Gambia to give firsthand information about the QNET operations across the world.
And also the forum was used to address a misleading circulated audio on social media causing noise in the communities.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Biram Faal, Regional General Manager Sub-Saharan Africa disclosed that QNET “strength lies in its diversity.”
He went on in his presentation to give a comprehensive background of QNET and its operation.
He said QNET was established in 1998 and its Headquarter is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, while having offices and agents in over twenty-five countries across the globe.
Mr Faal indicated that QNET is currently having over one thousand staff, and distributors are over six million plus while the e-commerce company is having business in over one hundred countries.
“It is a truly global business direct selling company with a proud Asian heritage and part of $180.6 Billion Global Direct Selling Industry,” he noted.
He dilated on QNET direct selling and pyramid scheme saying the direct selling involved high quality, legitimate products and services, comprehensive compensation plans in place, does not offer commissions based on recruitment, well established policies and procedures, and clear code of ethics in place, and with top notch training programmes in place.
QNET business and marketing tools, he said include aspire, product portfolio, company profile, category guide, poster, pitch card.
The e-commerce company training programmes are among other activities of the company which are business fundamentals, product training, leadership, professional marketing, personal development.
Among other countries benefiting from the QNET CSR are IC, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Senegal, Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad.
Talking about Africa projects, he said in the sub Saharan Africa region, Rhythm foundation currently supports 4 active projects across Senegal, Ghana, and Tanzania. “These projects support learning and literacy programs for children, sustainable agriculture and fund awareness programs on the health risks of female general mutilation.”
More so, “we have supported different types of sports through the years, not just because it helps us share our brand with a wider audience, but also because we recognize the similarities between sports and entrepreneurship. Hard work, commitment, teamwork, and focus – these are the trade one needs to succeed in both business and sports.”
He added that this is why over the years QNET supported team sports such as hockey, Formula One and football, and also partnered with sporting events in badminton and tennis.
He acclaimed that QNET “is the official direct selling partner of Manchester city football club, a partnership that is truly world-class. Additionally, QNET also supports talented individuals in mountaineering, martial arts and motorsports. And as well as the official direct selling partner of CAF.”
Answering scores of questions from members of press corps he therefore recognized and applauded them for their support and for taken time to attend the long day forum in taken times to asked questions about the general misconceptions of the people about their local independent agents in the Gambia.
Abdoullahi Nyocke, President of Network of Finance and Tax Reporters (NFTR) expressed his network profound gratitude to the QNET officials and its local independent representative in the country for ensuring that media engagement forum came into being.
He gave a brief background of the network which primary objective is to serve as a watchdog and ensure that there is a fair play of tax payment between the business community, government and the tax authority.
And among its other objectives, he said, is to educate and sensitise the public on the importance of tax to government and develop effective device anti money laundry and finance in our sub region
He explained that the idea of organizing the forum between the QNET and members of the press was due to the widespread misconception and misinformation of circulated audio through social media within the Gambia communities.
Based on this speculation and misconception “NFTR Gambia Chapter found it fit to sensitize the public in conjunction with QNET to enable the company clear all skeptics and rumors about its operations.
Muhammed Sanyang from DHK FM Radio also added that the forum is to earn the media firsthand information about QNET as there were lots of series of allegations regarding its operations in the country.
Haddy Jallow among others made remarks and as well shared personal experiences with member of press at the forum.
