Kitabou Fatty, one of the Gambia’s prominent actor cum Comedian has revealed his intentions to contest the upcoming Presidential election in December 4 in The Gambia.

Fatty was clearing doubts after a poster emerged showing him as the presidential candidate for a party called the People’s Development Party (PDP).

Even though many people took it to be another comedy skit from the talented actor, Fatty has revealed it was not a stunt and that he is prepared to join the highly contested 2021 presidential race.

Fatty says he is establishing a new party and contesting under his party, People’s Development Party. Fatty like other presidential aspirants is confident that he will win.

“I am very serious. This is no play. Comedy is my work. I make people laugh and educate them as well, but today the route we are taking is not comedy. This is the reality,” Fatty said.

Fatty is inspired by African artists who have changed the narratives in their respective countries like Trevor Noah of South Africa, and Bobi Wine, the main opposition leader, who is seeking to unseat Uganda’s longtime ruler, Yoweri Museveni.

Kitabou Fatty is taking part in what seems like the age of comedians in politics. Although The Gambia is known for its humorless political tradition, Fatty believes he can change the narratives, stating he knows the ‘country’s problems.’
